It is with deep regret that the Board of Directors of the North American Selle Francais Association (NASFA) composes this letter to its members. Due to a constant lack of financial liquidity, the American "arm" of the French Selle Francais organization is shutting down, effective immediately. For several months, the Board of Directors has wrestled with ways of keeping NASFA alive, but to no avail. As of this writing, the NASFA office is no longer conducting business. However, paperwork on 2007 registrations that are already completed will be sent to France. We have just received a large shipment of registration passports from France (primarily 2006 and some early 2007 foals) and they have been sent (certified mail) to the owners. We have just sent a large shipment of registration files to France (2007 foals). Once those papers are completed, they will be sent directly to the owner from France. There are several wonderful registries which you might consider membership in, future registration for your mares and foals, and stallion approval for currently approved Selle Francais stallions. For most of you, this will be a fairly seamless transition. The Belgian Warmblood Breeding Association - North American District (BWP-NAD) has generously agreed to absorb NASFA's Life Members by "grandfathering them into the BWP-NAD membership" and Selle Francais registered horses may be presented to the BWP-NAD for approval. For the 2008 foals whose breeding was reported properly to the NASFA office, registration and inspection may now go through the BWP-NAD. These foals will, however, have to be presented at an inspection. If you choose BWP-NAD, after 2008, mares and stallions must follow the BWP-NAD breeding protocols. Ken Rehill, representing the Zangersheide, has also let us know that that organization will also accept and register the 2008 Selle Francais foals. As for the Selle Francais approved stallions, Zangersheide will also be happy to take them on, and most of our stallions are probably already eligible to produce for the Z papered foal. If you wish to continue registering your foals with France, you may deal directly with a representative from France. Contact information is listed below for the French representative, the BWP-NAD, and Zangersheide. Of course, there are other registries you might prefer and all are sure to have easily accessible web sites. The NASFA Board of Directors has agreed to continue to work together to help you with this transition. For the interim period, until we have determined that NASFA has discharged any lingering paperwork completely, emails and phone calls to the old NASFA office will be re-routed from the old NASFA email address and phone to Elise Lauinger, a member of the Board of Directors. If she is unable to answer your questions herself, she will know where to help you find the answer. Should you wish to contact any of the Board members, emails are listed below. Thank you very much for your membership in NASFA and your support over the years. We know that the integrity of the wonderful Selle Francais breed will continue and that the registry of your choosing will support your love of the Selle Francais horses.
